Sent today to my Congresspeople. I’m not sitting still or looking pretty.
Dear Representative Hageman/Senator John Barrasso/Senator Cynthia Lummis,
I am writing to you as an alarmed constituent of the great State of Wyoming to urge you to restore democracy to the federal government. Elon Musk is wielding egregious amounts of unconstitutional authority, usurping the roles and duties of the members of the United States Congress (i.e. your elected position). Our nation is great when our people are represented. The actions of Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency in its current form are taking place outside the legal framework of representation and the Constitution and therefore do not represent the will or best interest of the people of this nation. If you agree with the sentiments of his actions, please follow the lawful constitutional process by writing legislation, debating it in Congress, and voting on appropriate measures. Without this due legal process, we are no longer a representative democracy, and the nation we have fought for to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of all its citizens will no longer be able to do any of these things. We are in imminent danger of losing everything the Revolutionary War sought to accomplish 250 years ago. We the People have no interest in being governed by a monarchy, a tyranny, or an oligarchy. Generations have fought and died for the sake of this republic.
Neither is the government of the United States a private corporation. It does not exist to enrich select private individuals. Sudden, one-sided, massive cuts to programs, budgets, and American jobs can only result in chaos and economic disaster. Please end Elon Musk’s unconstitutional authority and overreach that are resulting solely in personal gain. I do not believe you to be a hypocritical person; please do not condone the rampant hypocrisy currently at work at the highest level of the federal government. It does not matter to me which party is in ascendance or that policies I do not agree with might be voted into law. It matters to me that my elected representatives do their jobs of representation of the will and best interest of the full body of their constituents, not just those with deep pockets. There must be representation. There must be a vote. Please use your authority and your voice to restore the authority of the United States Congress over the governance of this nation.
Sincerely,
Janna Urschel

From the many responses i’ve been receiving to a plethora of equally alarmed letters to our “representatives”, i’m forced to acknowledge that i do believe in their hypocrisy.

I have to admit that was my own disingenuous and clumsy nod to diplomacy and does ring a great deal less true of some of the addressees than others!
